Collaborate to Eliminate
Project Overview
The Collaborate to Eliminate project is an HIV prevention initiative designed to expand access to accurate HIV prevention information and improve uptake of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among vulnerable populations, including IDP camp members, university students, and pregnant women and nursing mothers, across Nigeria.
By combining targeted community education with strategic capacity-building for healthcare providers, the project directly addresses long-standing gaps in HIV awareness and access to prevention services.
Health Systems Strengthening
Provide targeted training to selected healthcare providers to deliver high-quality, culturally competent HIV prevention and PrEP services. This training will build provider confidence to improve HIV service delivery.
Community Outreach
Through interactive education sessions, micro-learning engagements, and culturally responsive messaging, the project delivers accurate, stigma-free HIV prevention information directly to vulnerable populations, including IDP camp members, university students, and pregnant women and nursing mothers. These efforts increase awareness of HIV and PrEP, address misconceptions, and empower participants to make informed, confident decisions about their health.
By centering trusted community actors and frontline healthcare providers, Collaborate to Eliminate responds to structural inequities, stigma, and misinformation that continue to limit progress toward UNAIDS HIV prevention targets.
Project Activities
Core Pillars of Action
Community HIV Prevention Education
The project delivered tailored, live education sessions led by trained local healthcare providers and community facilitators. Sessions focus on sexual wellness, HIV transmission, HIV testing pathways, and HIV prevention options, including PrEP, using culturally responsive and stigma-free messaging.
Microlearning and Community Engagement
Short, interactive learning engagements were embedded into community events and health outreaches. Participants receive simplified educational materials, complete brief surveys, and are connected to nearby HIV testing and prevention services.
Healthcare Provider Capacity Strengthening
Targeted workshops were conducted to support healthcare professionals to confidently initiate sexual health conversations, normalize HIV testing, counsel diverse populations on PrEP, and integrate HIV prevention into routine care.
