SIMBIHEALTH Project Advocates for Health Policy Adjustments in Toto LGA, Nasarawa State

The SIMBIHEALTH Project, under the Slum and Rural Health Initiative, recently conducted a successful advocacy visit to the Chairman of Toto Local Government Area in Nasarawa State.

On Monday, February 5th, 2024, the team, led by Yahaya  Dauda, the Northern Coordinator for SRHIN, expressed gratitude to the Chairman for his ongoing support and commitment to community health initiatives.

During the visit, Yahaya Dauda highlighted the significant achievements of the SIMBIHEALTH Project since its inception in Nasarawa State. Notably, the team graduated from an intensive 8-week training program, which the Chairman himself attended as the chairman of the occasion. Furthermore, Dauda presented several policy adjustment requests aimed at enhancing public health within the local government. These included proposals for capital punishment for rape cases, monthly sanitation initiatives, and the banishment of brothels and public sex groups.

Community women leaders shared testimonies of the project’s impact, with Mrs. Mamma Happy Shekwobada from Kuru community praising the program for empowering women and promoting family planning and personal hygiene. Similarly, Gwargwada community volunteers highlighted the successful restructuring of a previously non-functional clinic, now providing essential healthcare services to women in the area.

In response, the Chairman, represented by his deputy, Honourable Abubakar Haruna Kwanaki, expressed appreciation for the SIMBIHEALTH Project’s efforts and assured the team of the government’s support. He emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing issues such as rape and child molestation, pledging to take decisive action against perpetrators.

The meeting concluded with gratitude expressed from both sides, highlighting the shared commitment to improving community health outcomes. Yahaya Dauda, thanked the Chairman for his collaboration and affirmed the organization’s dedication to future projects in the local government.

The SIMBIHEALTH Project remains steadfast in its mission to advance health equity and restore values and ethics in communities across Toto Local Government Area and beyond.
