How to cope with Mental Stress.

Our daily activities are lined with events that consciously or unconsciously affect our mental health. As individuals, we go through events and circumstances that could weigh us down mentally and physically; From having to attend an average of 5 virtual daily meetings, meeting up with deadlines, dealing with an unfriendly boss, getting stuck in traffic to maintaining our relationships. All these, leave deposits of unwanted energy in us.

Some of the principles listed below have been proven to help manage events that affect people’s mental health.

  • Dwell on activities that boost your mood
What do you like doing? What is it that when you do it, it makes you feel fulfilled and satisfied? Do these things daily or whenever your mood is down for whatever reason. Engaging in activities you enjoy help ease stress and anxiety.
  • Limit media influence
Even though we want to know what is happening in the world, most of the news and events being released on social media can weigh down your mental health. So instead of seeking news of pain, wars, death and other depressing news seek positive news when you can.
  • Surround yourself with positive people
Hearing a familiar voice speak to you at a time you are down can lift you out of the woods. So try to reach out to family and friends to hear a familiar voice that will make you know that you are not alone.
  • Take rest when necessary
Take time off the social media and any other time-consuming activities to rest. This will make you feel better every time.
