A School at a Time: Slum and Rural Health InitiativeTake Campaign against NCDs to Secondary School inIbadan.

Blog Post

In our effort to tackle non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among adolescents, we launched a targeted campaign in secondary schools across Ibadan. Through the initiative “Adopt-a-School NCD Campaign” we were able to educate and empower young people with the knowledge and tools to prevent and manage NCDs.

The campaign involved interactive sessions conducted by SRHIN-trained NCD Advocates and Volunteers. Students were educated about the risk factors, symptoms, and preventive measures related to NCDs such as diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. They were also taught about how to prevent it. With the use of visual aids such as cardboards, and interactive sessions, students were educated on non-communicable diseases.

Engaging with students at an impressionable age, they were able to instill lifelong habits that will promote their overall well-being and reduce the burden of NCDs in communities. We also emphasized the importance of early intervention and access to healthcare services for effective disease management.

We got encouraging feedback from the secondary schools we visited, with both the students and teachers expressing appreciation for the informative and engaging sessions.

Thanks to the support of AstraZeneca, we were able to impact knowledge into young minds. We remain committed to expanding our reach and impact, one school at a time, in the ongoing fight against NCDs.
