Dr Toluwase Olufadewa

Dr. Toluwase is multiple award-winning infectious diseases and mental health/NCD expert, social/digital skills entrepreneur, and global health researcher with over 6 years of experience advancing health equity in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps and historically marginalized communities in Northern Nigeria using the tools of research, advocacy, and technology. She is passionate about creating sustainable and lasting solutions to increase the health outcome of first migrants and people living in IDP camps in Nigeria. She believes in using a holistic approach to solving health challenges in Nigeria.
She is the One Health Team Lead and Senior Partnership Officer for Slum and Rural Health Initiative and the Entrepreneurship, Advocacy & Sustainability Lead of the BraveHeart Mental Health project where she led the digital skills and mental health training for young people in migrant/IDP camps in Northern Nigeria, her work has directly impacted over 35,000 people in underserved communities across 13 Nigerian States (https://braveheartproject.com/). She has partnered and collaborated with other researchers to enhance research in Africa. She has actively engaged in research projects, internships, and volunteer work that focuses on improving the health outcomes of vulnerable populations and internally displaced persons, particularly mothers and children.

She is a graduate of the prestigious Nigeria’s first and best university; the University of Ibadan where she studied Veterinary Medicine. She is a One-Health and gender equity advocate.

Recognized for her contributions, Dr. Toluwase is a recipient of several grants and awards including the Moving Mind Alliance Research Fellowship Grant (2023), the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene Grant (2021/2022), the Global Youth Mobilization Grant (2022), and the Alan Foster Fellowship Award among several others. She is an active member of prestigious organizations such as the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and Women in Global Health, International Trachoma Institute Fellow. She has published some of her research work in Reputable Journals such as The Lancet and several others. 

Driven by her passion for health equity, Dr. Toluwase aspires to reach 100,000 internally displaced persons with sustainable health solutions community-based, digital and entrepreneurial skills.
