Program

The HANDS Project

Vulnerable children lack access to proper hand hygiene and good hand-washing practices, which puts them at risk of contracting and spreading infectious diseases.

The HANDS PROJECT, an offshoot of the programs department, SRHIN, targets to train vulnerable children in hand hygiene and good hand-washing practices, and empower them .with entrepreneurial skills in the local production of hand-washing items such as hand wash (liquid soap) and hand sanitizers. This is to support global efforts in preventing the spread of infectious diseases through health education, sensitization, and other innovative means of encouraging healthy behaviour and practices among individuals and communities.

What is SRHIN doing to address this Issue?

The target population for the HANDS PROJECT are vulnerable children, including orphans, and children living with disabilities. Orphanage homes are target areas as they are major contact points to vulnerable children in any organised setting. A proper orientation on hand hygiene, hand washing practices, and training on local production of hand washing items also form central aspects of the project. The first edition ran for two months- June and July 2022.
A total of 72 children benefited from the project; 46 children from LIWOM, and 26 children from Oyiza Orphanage and Foster Foundation.
