The COMMUNACT Project

From Fear to Action: Community Voices Driving Mpox Response in Nigeria

The COMMUNACT Project is a collaborative public health initiative dedicated to understanding the social and cultural drivers behind healthcare-seeking behaviors for Mpox (Monkeypox) in Nigeria.

By addressing stigma,misinformation and health inequalities, the project seeks to improve access to Mpox-related healthcare through community engagement and evidence-based strategies.

Why this project Matters

Mpox (Monkeypox) continues to challenge public health systems—not because of what we don’t know medically, but because of what we don’t understand socially.

The COMMUNACT Project is a groundbreaking, community-driven study that asks a simple but powerful question:

Community-Led Research

  • 👥 40 Community Researchers Trained to listen, observe, and document real-life perceptions about Mpox.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Conduct in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, including healthcare workers, local leaders, and affected community members.

Policy Recommendation & Implementation

  • Host 4 deliberative engagement workshops with public health officials and communities to develop strategies for improving Mpox-related healthcare uptake.

Capacity Building for Health Researchers

  • Develop and disseminate educational materials to combat stigma and misinformation about Mpox.
