Slum and Rural Health Initiative conducted training sessions on non-communicable diseases to empower undergraduates at the University of Ibadan. They equipped undergraduates with the knowledge and skills needed to raise awareness and advocate for the prevention and management of NCDs
The training sessions were conducted biweekly for six weeks, and students were introduced to various types of NCDs such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer, along with their risk factors and preventive measures. They also learned about the importance of lifestyle modifications, early detection, and access to healthcare services in combating NCDs.
Through interactive sessions and practical exercises, participants were taught to be NCD advocates to impact young minds by going to secondary schools around them to educate the students.
Feedback from the University of Ibadan undergraduates was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing their enthusiasm to apply their newfound knowledge.
