SRHIN DISTRIBUTES RELIEF PACKAGES TO 100 HOUSEHOLDS IN BORNO IDP CAMP

As part of measures to prevent the outbreak of widespread of Cholera in Borno State, Slum and Rural Health Initiative Network (SRHIN) recently took the Cholera Prevention campaign to the CAN IDP Camp, New Jerusalem in Borno State.

Recall that Borno State, alongside other northern states such as Zamfara, Bauchi Kaduna, Gombe, and Kano States including the FCT has over the past few months recorded the most deaths from Cholera infection.

The outbreak was unusually quickened by squalid living conditions, lack of access to clean water supply, and unhygienic sanitary systems, particularly in dense communities such as Internally Displaced Camps.

The outreach by Slum Rural Health Initiative Network, a non-governmental organization took place on September 24th, 2021.

After permission was granted by the Camp Leader, SRHIN educated the internally displaced persons on ways to prevent being infected by the disease, ensure proper hygiene and sanitation.

The sensitization was delivered in English and Hausa Language to adequately drive the message home. Slum and Rural Health Initiative Network further distributed relief packages which included water, sanitation, and hygiene items to 100 households.
